A popular saying goes that Programmers are machines that turn caffeine into code.
And sure enough, ask a random programmer when they do their best work and there’s a high chance they will admit to a lot of late nights. Some earlier, some later. A popular trend is to get up at 4am and get some work done before the day’s craziness begins. Others like going to bed at 4am.
At the gist of all this is avoiding distractions. But you could just lock the door, what’s so special about the night?
Why HTML5 makes justifying native applications more difficult
One of the biggest shifts in development in the last few years has been the move to Web applications. For a long time, developers resisted this move, and some of the reasons why were good. For example, I said that for a long time the Web model wasn’t so great — the UI capabilities weren’t there without a ton of work, and the ability to do “real work” was lacking. Some of the reasons were not so good, and mostly boiled down to a refusal to learn something new.

It looks like Facebook has just acquired a mobile video and image app developer Digital Staircase, according to a blog post on the startup’s site. We’ve embedded the blog post below and emailed Facebook for confirmation.
Digital Staircase has developed a number of app for video recording, image editing and more. MovieCam, which is available as an iPad and iOS app, is a camcorder app that provides recording features like 8x digital zoom, pause-and-resume recording functionality, and contrast enhancement. The app also allows you to add 18 movie effects and filters while shooting video.
iPhone app StereoCam aids in the quick creation of stereo image pairs. A stereo image pair consists of two specially designed images that are placed side-by-side to allow viewers (employing an appropriate viewing technique) to see the depicted scene in full. …

Two Lives Left have released Codify, a platform that allows game development using the Lua scripting language, which runs directly on an Apple iPad. Games can be created and demonstrated on the iPad, with auto-completion and tight editing.
Codify is built upon the Lua scripting language, a widely used scripting mechanism used in games. App Store restrictions on applications with embedded scripting engines/languages were relaxed last year, provided that they do not allow the download of new scripts. Unfortunately, this means that Codify has no way of exporting or importing resources and programs that have been created on a single iPad, which limits its use.
